New Delhi: On January 1, 2025, various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPS) and Assam Rifles had about 1.1 lakh vacancies, which is 10.3% of their joint sanctioned strength, the Ministry of Home Affairs told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.Responding to a question, Junior Home Minister Nityanand Rai, however, said that 72,689 vacancies have been informed for recruitment, “which is running”.Sharing further data, Rai said that the approved strength of CAPFS including BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and SSB and Assam Rifle increased by 6.1%, slightly more than 10 lakhs in 2021 to about 10.7 lakhs on January 1, 2025.According to data provided by MHA, while CRPF has the most vacancies in absolute (34,869), the vacancies are the highest in CISF (17.4%) as a percentage of approved strength of force. A good 14.5% post in ITBP was vacant on January 1, 2025, while CRPF had 10.5% vacancies, in SSB 7.8%, 5.8% in Assam Rifles and in BSF, 5.3% of its approved power.Rai said that the government is taking fake steps to fill the vacancies rapidly through UPSC, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and respective forces. It has signed an MoU with SSC for annual recruitment for the posts of Constable (General Duty). In addition, a nodal force has been nominated on a long-term basis for coordination of recruitment for general duty posts in the rank of Constable, Sub-Inspector and Assistant Commandant.Rai said that guidelines have been issued to recruit all CAPFS and Assam Rifles against vacant posts in non-general duty cadre. Other stages include timely conduct of meetings of the Departmental Promotion Committee, timely reduction in time in medical examination, and reduce cutoff marks for shortlist candidates for the post of Constable (General Duty) to fill the vacancies.
