ADF Attack: 66 people killed in Congo; The United Nations spokesperson described it as ‘Bloodbath’

Local officials said on Saturday that at least 66 people have been killed in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo by rebels associated with the Islamic State Group.Elide Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters, an Islamic group with an Islamic group, attacked citizens in the Iramu region of Ituri province, on the borders of Uganda. The attack comes as Eastern Congo which can see the end of its ongoing war with the M23 rebellious group, supported by the neighboring country Rwanda.Jean Tobby Okla, a spokesman of the United Nations Mission in Ituri, described the attack as “bloodbeath”.Okla said, “Valis Vonkutu chief in Ituri, about 30 civilians were killed in the Iramu region between Thursday and Friday, July 11.” He said, “Based on the information of the Civil Society, the death toll 31 to 66 citizens have been killed,” he said.ADF is a Uganda Islamist group operating on both sides of the porous border. Marsel Paluku, president of a local civil society group, said that all the victims, including women, were killed with Macches. The number of people held hostage remains unknown.Officials suspect that the attack was in vengeance for a recent bombing campaign by the United Sangole and Uganda forces starting on Sunday.In recent years, the ADF attacks have intensified along the border with Uganda and have spread towards Goma, the main city of Eastern Congo, as well as neighboring Ituri province. The rights groups and the United Nations have accused the ADF of killing hundreds of people and many more kidnapping, including a large number of children.
