‘Agrotorimism’: FBI arrested Chinese researcher for smuggling deadly fungi in America

FBI chief Kash Patel on Tuesday claimed to arrest a Chinese citizen in the US for smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen in the country.In a social media post on X, Patel said that Unicing Gian expressed allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party and had received money from the Chinese government for similar work on this pathogen in China.Patel said, “Personal, unicing genius, is allegedly accused of smuggling a dangerous fungus called” Fusarium Graminierum “, who is an agerorism agent in the US to conduct research at the University of Michigan, where she works,” said Patel.He said, “This fungus can cause a disease called” head blight “, a disease of wheat, barley, maize and rice, causing significant health issues in both humans and livestock. It is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide every year.”Gian’s lover, Zuniyong Liu, who works in a university in China, was also nominated in the complaint and faced allegations.Patel said on the same post, “Liu had lied first, then accepted, yet, to smuggle the Fusarium Graminierum in the US – through the Detroit Metropolitan Airport – so that he can also do research at the University of Michigan.”Both Gian and Liu have been accused of plotting, smuggling goods in the US, false statements and visa fraud. The investigation was jointly conducted by FBI and US customs and border security.Regarding the severity of the fungus, Patel said, “This fungus” can cause a disease called head blight, “wheat, barley, maize and rice, causing significant health problems in both humans and livestock,” It is “responsible for billions of dollars in economic loss every year.”Patel also issued a warning about the widespread threat arising out of such activities: “CCP is working around the clock to infiltrate American institutions and deploy operatives and researchers to target food supply in the US, which will have serious consequences … American life and our economy are at risk.”The tension between the US and China increased, and a few days after the Trump administration pledged by the Trump administration to cancel the visa of Chinese citizens studying in the US, the allegations increased.
