New Delhi: Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said on Thursday that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which crashed on June 12, was “well maintained,” with its last major inspection in June 2023 and the next one in December 2025. As his comments, the airline launched an increased pre-uproar security check in its Boeing 787 fleet, killing 241 passengers and crews and 34 people on the ground after a deadly accident of flight AI171.Wilson said in a message to the passengers, “We are conducting a pre-poll security check on the Boeing 787 fleet,” a message to the passengers stated that the temporary 15% decrease in the widebody operations of Air India in the coming weeks is a precautionary measure.Providing more information, Wilson said, “The aircraft was maintained well, with its last major check in June 2023 and the next to December 2025. Its right engine was overhale in March 2025, and the left engine was inspected in April 2025. Both aircraft and engines were regularly monitored, no problem was seen before the flight.Inspectors follow an instruction from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India’s Aviation Regulatory, which was released on 14 June. On Thursday, 26 out of 33 Boeing 787 aircraft in Air India fleet have passed by 26 and have been approved for service. The remaining aircraft are undergoing scheduled maintenance and will return to the operation only after additional security reviews.“After the review, the DGCA confirmed that our Boeing 787 fleet and maintenance processes fully meet the safety standards,” Wilson said.Expressing grief over the tragedy, Wilson said, “We are arriving with heavy hearts after an Air India flight AI171’s tragic accident on June 12, 2025. The words cannot express the pain we feel for the families and loved ones affected by this devastating incident.”
