New Delhi: It has been a week since the tragic Air India plane accident in Ahmedabad, in which 274 people lost their lives. On Thursday, officials said the debris, including the damaged tail fin of the aircraft, still remains at the accident site as investigators continue to search for clues to determine the exact cause of the accident.Debris, including tail fin, is still lying on the site. There are no orders yet to move the debris elsewhere, ”said Jayesh Khadia, the Additional Chief Fire Officer of Ahmedabad.Inspector DB Basia of Meghnagar Police Station confirmed that AAIB would decide the fate of the aircraft. He said, “The role of the police is limited to secure the area. AAIB will determine what to do with the remains, which can later be taken to another place for further examination,” he said.The Bureau of Aircraft Investigation (AAIB) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation has been leading an inquiry to understand the cause of one of the worst air disasters in recent times. AAIB officials are traveling regularly at the accident site as part of the ongoing investigation.Local fire workers are assisting forensic and aviation experts with site operations.On June 12, the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, to carry 242 people, crashed into a hostel building of Bij Medical College in Meghaninagar, which was just a few minutes after the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport flew from 1.39 pm.After the accident, the aircraft’s tail fin stuck to the top of the damaged building and brought down on 14 June two days after the incident using the crane.A few days after the recovery of the flight data recorder (FDR), investigators also located a cockpit voice recorder on 16 June. Officials said that this important discovery can help understand the cause of the accident.Officials on Sunday confirmed the recovery of the black box to PK Mishra, Principal Secretary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inspected the site.While Aaib has launched a detailed investigation, the US National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a parallel investigation under the International Protocol, as the crashed aircraft was American -made, according to an official release.
