Vietnam Jail former Minister Solar Energy Pricing Scheme |

Hanoi: A court in Vietnam found a former Deputy Industries Minister and found guilty of “Power Abus” in a solar power development scheme for business for six years on Tuesday.
The South East Asian country has committed to reach pure-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and is trying to increase air and solar production to meet the increasing demand.
62 -year -old Hoang Quok Wung accepted with special pricing to take a bribe of $ 57,600 to favor solar power plants in Southern Ninh Thuan province, when he sold electricity to the national power company.
Wuong was the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry between 2015 and 2020 and presided over the state -owned power of Vietnam (EVN) between 2012 and 2015.
According to the decision, EVN spent about $ 154 million (4,000 billion dongs) to buy solar energy from three solar power plants in Ninh Thuan province between 2018 and 2020, causing a loss of over $ 40 million to the state budget.
Wuong admitted in the court that he had received bribe but his family has paid the amount.
“I think during my public work performance, I had done things wrong, causing damage to the state. So I take responsibility for the state to pay the amount,” Wung told the court.
Wuong said before the court in his last terms that “wrong things were painful lessons, erasing my contribution (for the state) in various positions”.
Eleven other energy and tax authorities involved in the case were also kept under the test. He was punished who was from suspended sentence of three years to six years in jail for misuse of power and lack of responsibilities.
The court also ordered three power plants in Hanoi, which benefited EVN from the sale of power to the state -owned group to pay a loss of $ 40 million back.
