New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) formally wrote to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the allegations of rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra elections, stating that all elections are strictly held as per the Parliament and the rules as per laws.Pol body also said that thousands of personnel were involved in the entire election process, including booth-level agents appointed by various political parties.In a letter emailed to the Congress leader on June 12, while responding to its article published in a major daily, the ECI reported that the election process is done in a decentralized manner at the assembly constituency level. This noted the participation of officers (BLOS), 288 Election Registration Officers (EROS), 139 General Supervisors, 41 Police Supervisors, 71 Expenditure Supervisors, and 288 Returning Officers (ROS).In addition, 1,08,026 booth level agents (BLAS) were deployed in Maharashtra from national and state political parties including 28,421 from Congress.According to the news agency PTI, the Commission wrote to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, “We believe that any issue regarding the conduct of elections would have already been raised through Election petitions filed in the Court of Law (High Court), competent by Ink candidates.”The Pol Authority said, “If you still have a problem, you welcome us to write and the Commission is ready to meet you in personally convenient date and time to discuss all the issues.”Despite the explanation of the pole body on the issue, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday flagged off the alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra assembly elections, claiming that there were no isolated glits, but demanded immediate release of CCTV footage as well as “vote theft” and machine-sanctified digital voter rolls as well as CCTV footage.The Rae Bareli MP shared on the XA media report, claiming that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and Maharashtra Assembly elections, Nagpur South West in just six months – a seat organized by BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis – 29,219 new voters were added.Gandhi said in his post, “In his constituency of Maharashtra CM, the voter list increased by 8 percent in just 5 months. Some booths saw an increase of 20-50 percent. Bloss reported to vote for unknown persons.”He said, “The media exposed thousands of voters without any verified address.“This is why we demand an immediate release of machine-elective digital voter rolls and CCTV footage,” Gandhi said.
