The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehboba Mufti welcomed the arrival of the train for Kashmir on Friday, called it an important milestone received through joint efforts of gradual governments in four decades.Speaking to reporters, Mufti accepted the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in completing the ambitious project, which began in 1983 with the Jammu-Audhampur railway link under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.PTI quoted Mufti as saying, “We welcome the train. The work was for the last 40 years, since Indira Gandhi started the Jammu-Udhampur railway link in 1983,” PTI said Mufti.“All governments have worked on this project, and Modi has completed it. It was very difficult, but he has done so, and people are happy with it, ”Mufti said.Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech in Katra in the first day, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir was pleased with Modi’s confession of the firm rejection of terrorism of Kashmiri people, especially after the April 22 terror attack in Pahgam.“I am also happy that Modi has accepted a stand taken against terrorism by the people of Kashmir after the Pahgam attack. He appreciated Adil Shah, who gave his life while saving a tourist. This is the one who is Kashiris,” he said. However, Mufti expressed concern about the arrest in the valley after the attack, in which a large number of youth were questioned on the Center’s rationale to take into custody, often without formal allegations.“This is my humble request to review these arrests from the government,” he said. He also called for the release of Kashmiri people detained on the occasion of Eid. “When you admit that Kashmiris are peace-loving people, these people should be released on the eve of Eid. People who do not have any serious allegations against them or who have been detained only on suspicion.”
