Amit Shah chairs get Yamuna clean-up; Asks Delhi, states to work on pollution; Calls for STP upgrade, use of water improvement | Bharat News

New Delhi: Keeping in mind the promise made by the BJP in its Delhi Poll Manifesto-to clean and revive the river-Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting on the rejuvenation of the river and emphasized the need for Delhi to check the waste or waste in Yamuna to work with neighboring states.Meeting – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Union Water Minister CR Patil and senior officials of the respective Union Ministries and senior officials of the Government of Delhi – Shah asked the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to work in action mode to work in action mode. He said that the Delhi government should take continuous and effective steps to prevent increasing pollution from industrial units. Along with entering the Yamuna through waste from other states along with chemicals, they asked all these states to join hands to free the river.Shah laid special emphasis on increasing e-flow in Yamuna, saying that there is a need to talk to the UP government for a solution that can improve the flow of Yamuna at the time of entering Delhi. He said that the treated water of Okhla STP should be released under the Yamuna which will help improve the quality of river water.The Home Minister suggested a detailed survey about the supply of water in Delhi, to find out how much water is necessary to supply water for food to all the people living in Delhi. Uncontrolled water drainage through borewells is a major problem in Delhi, on which Delhi Jal Board needs to work by making an action plan, Shah said. He said that these borewells should be regularized in a phased manner.Shah enhanced the capacity of sewage treatment plants (STP) in Delhi to 1500 MGD by 2028. He suggested that Haryana, Delhi and regularly and transparently conduct transparent tests of water flowing from their STPs, while STPs also insist on obtaining third party to test quality of flow.Calling to increase the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in the main drains of Najafgarh and Shahdara, Shah said that a drone survey of two drains should be done. He said that apart from the efforts being made by the Delhi government to clean the rivers, there is a need to increase the budget of the National Mission for the Clean Ganga (NMCG).Shah said that the Delhi government should arrange rainwater collection in many reservoirs across the city, which can turn them into a potential tourist hub. The Home Minister said that the Delhi government should work in collaboration with the National Dairy Dairl Development Board (NDDB) to manage the waste produced by dairies and cow shelters. He emphasized the management of unauthorized dairies in the national capital.
