“He wanted to go to the bus, but he could not. He had been waiting for the last few overs, hoping he would find his rhythm, because he spent some time there, so he should have been able to hit him in that way, but I just felt that in the end, I just needed to fresh to go, and he was struggling.
Tilak came to the crease with a mile for 86 runs for 86 runs. He formed a 66 -run partnership from 48 balls with Suryakumar Yadav for the fourth wicket.
While Suryakumar scored fluently with 46 runs in 30 balls in partnership, Tilak scored only 18 runs during his stand.
After Suryakumar’s dismissal, MI required 52 runs from the last 23 balls. Tilak scored eight runs off his last five balls, before retiring with Captain Hardik Pandya at the other end.
Hardik supported the decision in his post-match comments to broadcasters: “I think it was clear. We needed some hits, and he was not able to achieve them. Sometimes one of those days comes in cricket when you really want to try, but it doesn’t decide, but why do we do it, then why we did so.”
Despite the strategic replacement of Tilak, who entered an impact sub, Mumbai Indians were unable to achieve the target as LSG won 12 runs.
