New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced the death of a 20-year-old girl from FM Autonomous College, Balasore, who attempted self-explosion earlier this month after accusing a faculty member of sexual harassment earlier this month.A AIIMS was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after maintaining a second -year -old bed student, victims, 90% of a burning injuries at FM Autonomous College.In a post on X, CM Majhi wrote, “I am very sad to hear the news of the death of a woman student from FM Autonomous College. Despite the fulfillment of all responsibilities by the government and the tireless efforts of the expert medical team, the victim’s life could not be saved.”He said, “I pray for the eternal peace of my departed soul and Lord Jagannath to provide strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss. I assure the family of the deceased student that all of them will be convicted in this case, who will face strict punishment according to the law. For this, I have issued instructions to the authorities personally. The government stands strongly with the family. ,The student had set himself up on July 12 outside the college gate during a peaceful protest, demanding action against the head of the Education Department, which had been going on since July 1. He had earlier submitted several complaints, accusing the faculty member of sexual harassment and threatened to manipulate his academic score. A male student who tried to save him also faced burnt injuries.Caught on CCTV, the incident triggered public outrage and arrested the accused Assistant Professor and suspension, later arrested the principal of the college. The Odisha Higher Education Department, in his suspension order for the principal, cited the failure to properly handle the case, while the assistant professor was suspended on the basis of “Prima Fachai proof”.Protests outside AIMS on student’s death As the mortal remains of a Balasore student were taken to the postmortem center in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a protest demanding justice.The agitators raised slogans and demanded immediate action against all responsible. The girl was initially treated at Balasore Hospital before going to AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The doctors had earlier confirmed his situation. On Sunday, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Medical Superintendent Dr. Dilip Kumar Parida said, “The patient is still important … the team has consulted AIIMS Delhi.” The victim was on a mechanical ventilator with 95% of burnt injuries, his father said earlier.
