Balasore Sexual Harassment Case: UGC set a panel to check the girl’s self-suit. Bharat News

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formed a four-member fact-Khoj Samiti to see the self-suit of a 20-year-old bed student in the premises of a government-run college in Balasore, Odisha. UGC Secretary Sudeep Singh Jain said that the committee will “investigate the circumstances around the incident, assess compliance with the regulatory provisions, and suggest measures to stop such tragedies in future”. It will also look into institutional policies, grievances redressal mechanisms, anti -harassment measures and student support systems in the college.The panel is headed by Raj Kumar Mittal, Professor and UGC member of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Its other members are former UGC member Sushma Yadav, former Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta and UGC Joint Secretary Ashima Mangla. Jain said, “The team would have organized an on-site evaluation to verify the actual implementation of measures for the safety and welfare of women students, beyond the compliance documented.” It will also interact with students, faculty members, administrators and assistant employees to assess the challenges faced by institutional culture and students.
