Bihar voter list amendment: 20 lakh deceased, more than 7 lakh duplicate voters – EC sir gives updates on exercise India news

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday shared the details of its ongoing intensive amendment (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, which revealed that 98.01 percent of the voters have been included in the practice till 23 July till 23 July.According to officials, the amendment has identified about 2 million deceased voters and 28 lakh persons who have permanently migrated from their registered address. In addition, 7 lakh voters were found to be enrolled at more than one place, 1 lakh was marked as unaware, and about 1.5 million voter forms were not refunded.The EC also stated that 7.17 crore voter form, about 90.89%of the total, has been obtained and digitized during the process.

This is the first time in 22 years when such amendments are being made in Bihar. The main objective is that all eligible citizens have been included, while unqualified, duplicate or non-existent entries are to be cleaned and cleaned the voter list.The move came amid a legal investigation, in which the Supreme Court and opposition parties started the EC on 24 June, questioning Bihar, questioning the instructions of starting a nationwide head. In its affidavit defending the decision, the pole panel said:“Sir exercise connects the purity of elections by excluding unqualified persons from the electoral roll. RP acts entitled to vote with Article 326 with Section 16 and 19 of the 1950 and Section 62 of RP Act 1951, including some qualifications in relation to citizens.,The EC further clarified that while documents such as Aadhaar, voter ID cards and ration cards are not mandatory, they are being used in a limited way for identification verification during Sir -2025 exercise.The affidavit states, “In addition to already the legal concerns mentioned here, these documents are actually considered by the Commission for a limited objective of identity,” the affidavit states.
