New Delhi: Former MP Prajwal Revanna allegedly triggered a political storm before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after a clear video, on Friday, a special court in Bengaluru convicted him in one of the four rape cases registered against him. The amount of punishment will be announced on Saturday.The case was originally registered at Holenarsipura Rural Police Station. The verdict, initially late July 30, as the court sought clarification on technical matters. It was finally given on 1 August.Prajwal Revanna is a prominent accused in four separate criminal cases, including all rape, sexual harassment and criminal intimidation allegations. In April 2024, the cases came to light, as Revanna was allegedly included in a porn video clip pen drive, aired in Hassan. The scam exploded just before the Lok Sabha elections, a setback for Revna’s political career – he lost Hasan’s seat by more than 40,000 votes.The Karnataka government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the allegations, and Revanna was arrested at Bengaluru Airport after returning from Germany on 31 May, 2024, where he stayed for 35 days.In November 2024, the Supreme Court rejected its appeal against the rejection of both regular and anticipatory bail of the Karnataka High Court. Justice Bela M. Trivedi said, “Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said that there were many complaints against him.” You are very powerful, “the bench commented when senior advocate Mukul Rohtgi was seen for Revanna, arguing that Section 376 (rape) was not quoted in the original complaint.In June 2024, the SIT filed a fourth case against Revanna, this time called for allegations, including staring, criminal intimidation and violation of secrecy under the IT Act. A detailed 1,652-page charge sheet was presented in a special court citing statements of 113 witnesses and various forms of forensic evidence.Revanna is in judicial custody in Parappana Agarhar Jail, waiting for a court sentence on Saturday.
