Business talks in US Switzerland can cut China’s tariff from 145% to 50%

The Trump administration is expected to declare a significant decrease in tariffs on sugar imports – probably in the beginning of the next week – as the American and Chinese trade officials gather for major negotiations in Switzerland. Sources told The Post that the current tariff of 145% on Chinese goods can be reduced between 50% and 54%, a rate seen as a more durable by businesses. At the same time, tariffs on other Asian countries can be reduced by 25%. The decision, still pending formal approval, follows the weeks of discussions and meetings between top American authorities and business leaders, including CEOs of Walmart, Target and Home Depot. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent recently described the current tariff level as “not durable”, being renewed for a change. White House spokesman Kush Desai, however, refused to confirm any figure, just stating that the tariff decisions would be made directly by President Trump.
