‘Calcutta HC Dumping Ground cannot be: Lawyers strike on Delhi Judge Shift | Bharat News

Kolkata: Calcutta HC lawyers stayed away from the court from 10 am to 3.30 pm on Tuesday to protest against the recommendation of SC Collectorate, which was to transfer Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma from Delhi HC to Calcutta HC.
Even while the lawyers were protesting, the Center informed the transfer of Justice Sharma, which included the bodies of three HC lawyers – Calcutta HC Bar Association, Bar Library Club and Law Society – to write to Chief Judge TS Shivganam that their members will boycott the swearing -in ceremony of Justice Sharma. The lawyers also threatened to stay away from Justice Sharma’s court if they were allocated cases.
Opposing the move to transfer Justice Sharma, the bodies of the three lawyers wrote to India’s Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna last Saturday that Calcutta HC could not be a ‘dumping ground’ for judges with ‘suspected image or short stent’, a few days later, the lawyers of Allahabad HC opposed the transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma. Justice Verma is currently entangled in a cash-poverty line and Allahabad HC lawyers opposed their transfer from Delhi HC, saying that his HC cannot be used as a ‘dumping ground’.
With Calcutta HC’s lawyers staying away, very few cases were heard during the day because the judges clarified that they would not hear cases until both sides were present during the hearing.
The bodies of three lawyers wrote to the CJI, adding the whistleblower email from October 28 and November 4, 2024, Justice Sharma maintained some civil disputes as a “hearing part” despite a roster change. He urged Additional Solicitor General and Advocate General to boycott their swearing in.
