California sports body ‘biological female’ widens entry for athletes amid trans athlete controversy

The AP reported that the California Intercolastic Federation (CIF) announced a rule change this week to allow more girls to participate in the upcoming state track-end-field championship after public backlash at the incorporation of a transgender athlete. In a statement released on Tuesday, the CIF stated that it would implement a “pilot entry process” to expand the entry into athletes “biological women”. The new rule allows any athlete that missed out of automatic qualifying mark, but was the next best result in its section final to compete at the state level. The organization said, “CIF believes that this pilot admission process receives opportunities for participation that we want to bear our student-athletes,” the organization said. The change applies only to this weekend competition. The CIF did not say how many athletes would be affected or whether the rules apply to all events or only to those where a transgender athlete has qualified for the final. This can be the first time a high school game governing body in the US has expanded competition in response to the participation of a transgender athlete. The change was introduced after US President Trump criticized the participation of Trans athlete Ab Hernandez, which was a transgender athlete who competed in girls’ tracks and fields.Trump on Tuesday threatened to pull federal funds from California, if the state stopped transgender students from competing in girls’ games. “This is not appropriate, and is completely condemned for women and girls,” Trump has written on the truth social.Hernandez is set to compete in girls Versity Triple Jump, High Jump and Long Jump in the finals of the state. She won the Division 3 Girls Long Jump and Triple Jump and finished seventh in the high jump in the Southern Section Division Final on May 19.Parents and orthodox advocates have criticized hernandez in protest against transgender girls who compete in girls’ games and hek them during Postsen Meat. After losing to Hernandez in a long jump in the sectional finals, Katie McGinness of La Canada High School called CIF to modify his policy.California governor Gavin Newsom recently stated on his podcast that it is “deeply inappropriate” for transgender girls to participate in girls’ games.Last month, the Democratic State MPs in California blocked the bills that stopped transgender girls from participating in girls sports.
