A box truck crashed into a building in Chintown, Boston on Tuesday afternoon, injuring at least six people and the rented vehicle was left sideways against a structure. Officials have denied foul play, calling it a “tragic accident”, but the reason is under investigation.
The accident occurred around 12:48 pm (local time), which is at the intersection of Niland Street and Harrison Avenue, a busy area, known for heavy legs traffic and restaurants.
According to CNN, four people were taken to hospitals, which initially included a single one who was later stabilized. Two other people rejected medical treatment at the scene. The driver of the truck was among the seriously injured people and was to be removed from the cab using special equipment.
CNN said to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, “We have no reason to believe that it was a deliberate task.” District Attorney Kevin Hayden of Safok County said that while the incident appears accidental, officials will determine whether someone should be held responsible.
The Penski rented truck, leased to a commercial trucking company, overturned after a strike and several items, including a pole and fire hydrant. The effect caused structural damage to a building and nearby Ramon restaurant.
Boston Mayor Mitchell Wu described the destruction as “quite shocking” and confirmed that the city’s inspectors were assessing the stability of the building affected before it reopen it.
The Boston Fire Department and emergency teams quickly responded, cutting through the cab roof to free the trapped driver. “The technical team had to peel the cab back to evacuate the driver,” the deputy fire chief Steven Shafar said according to the mirror.
Officials have closed the Niland Street between Tyler and Washington roads to reconstruct the accident. Investigators are reviewing the security footage to determine whether the speed or medical emergency has played a role. The Tufts Medical Center activated a large -scale casualty response due to the number of victims.
Penscay Transportation Solutions issued a statement that confirmed cooperation with the officials. “Our views are with those who are injured in this unfortunate incident,” said Ellen Belgin, spokesperson.
