Check FM summons Chinese Ambassador on Cybrants

Czech officials said the Chinese ambassador to the Czech Republic was called to a cyber attack on Wednesday, which targeted the Ministry of External Affairs of Prague.The Czech Foreign Ministry stated that a comprehensive investigation into the attack “led a high level of certainty about the responsible actor”, nominated it as a group APT31 associated with China.Foreign Minister John Lipvski said on X, “I called the Chinese ambassador to clarify that such hostile tasks have serious consequences for our bilateral relations.”The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the attack launched in 2022 and targeted the “one of the ministry’s impatient network”.The ministry, citing its investigation, said, “Malibly activity was determined by a actor APT31, which is publicly associated with the (Chinese) state security,” the ministry said citing its investigation.The ministry said, “We call from the People’s Republic of China … to avoid such attacks and take all the appropriate measures to address the situation,” the ministry said.Lipvsky said “We discovered the attackers during infiltration”.The Czech Security Information Office (BIS) saw China as a threat to security in its 2024 annual report.“The Chinese Embassy logically focuses on obtaining information about the check political landscape,” BIS said.
