After his victory, Gukesh shared a humorous story about a promised shout for his cousin, which predicted his victory over Carlson.After forgetting to mention his cousin in the post -match interview after his victory against Carlson on Thursday, Gukesh later made it for it. “It’s a bit funny. Before I came to this tournament, one of my cousins told me that I am going to defeat Magnus. So we have made a deal that if I beat Magnus, I will give him a shout in my interview. I was completely forgotten yesterday, and he was quite upset about it,” Gukesh said with a laugh.The young Grandmaster showed remarkable flexibility in the tournament. After losing his initial game for Jan-Karazzetof Duda, he strongly bounced back with five direct win. His victory over Carlson in Round 4 was an important moment that put him on the driver’s seat.Gukesh abolished the Rapid section on a high note, defeating Wesley in the United States in the final round. He won the game in 36 moves by capitalizing on a strategic mistake. His overall performance included six wins, two draws and just one disadvantage.Looking forward to the Blitz format, Gukesh focuses on maintaining his strong look. “I think till now I have been playing good chess, so the strategy will be to play good chess with good time management and I hope everything will work,” he explained.
