Magnus Carlson has achieved an important milestone by crossing the 2900 rating threshold in the freestyle chess, an achievement that developed it for a long time in classical chess. Subscribe now!The new freestyle chess rating released on Thursday is compiled by the freestyle chess organization instead of the global chess governing body.“My wife (Ella Victoria) is more attracted to me that I have now achieved 2900,” Carlson told the freestyle chess, after knowing about her rating.The freestyle rating was calculated using five tournaments: Visenhus 2024, Singapore 2024, Visenhus 2025, Paris 2025, and Carlsaruhe 2025. The list includes 578 players who participated in at least one freestyle chess incident in the last two years.After Carlson (2909), Hikaru Nakamura (2818), and Fabiano Caruana (2804), Pragganandha led Indian players in fourth place with 2773 points.

Other Indian players in the list include Arjun Erigasi at 8th position with 2758 points, Vidit Santosh Gujathi in 18th position with 2713 points, Arvind Chitparam VR on 22nd with 2707 points and classical world champion Gukesh at 26th with 2701 points.Gukesh’s lower ranking can be held responsible for his recent conflicts in the Freestyle Chess tournament.Carlson has excelled in this format, scoring a perfect score of nine wins in nine matches at the Freestyle Open. His freestyle Aloe rating of 2909 crossed his classical chess rating by 72 points.
Carlson had previously approached a 2900 issue in the classical chess in 2019. During this period, he made another record by playing 125 classical games without defeat between July 2018 and October 2020.“I have left a little bit of trying to reach 2900.
