New Delhi: The government on Wednesday reiterated its strong objection to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and called any detail or third party participation “unacceptable” in the project.In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, External Affairs Minister Kirti Vidhan Singh confirmed that the Government of India was aware of the recent tripartite meeting between China, Pakistan and Afghanistan held in Beijing.
“The government’s position on CPEC is clear and consistent. We have strongly opposed the parties of the so -called CPEC to include the so -called CPEC as a major project of Belt One Road/ Belt and Road Initiative (OBOR/ BRI), as it passes through parts of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir under the packet.”On the recent partnership of Afghanistan, Singh stressed that India has clearly opposed any proposed partnership in the third countries in the CPEC and infused its objections to the concerned parties.Singh reiterated, “Any proposed participation of third countries or expansion of so -called CPEC projects in third countries is unacceptable. The government has constantly expressed this situation.”The minister also said that India keeps a constant watch on all foreign developments that can affect its safety and take “all necessary measures” to protect its sovereignty and regional integrity.
