New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the “insignificant” criminal case against a person accused of stealing a cat named ‘Daisy’.During the post -lunch hearing, Justice M Nagprasana commented with entertainment: “A cat named Daisy has driven everyone crazy”.The proceedings against Taha Hussain were abolished when he said that his neighbor had filed a false police complaint, alleging that his cat was taken. The petitioner approached the High Court in 2023 to dismiss the case, which was heard on 23 July 2024. Justice Nagprasana provided temporary relief by suspending all legal action against Hussain. The court said: “Permission for further action in such trivial cases will stop the criminal justice system.”In July 2024, the police filed a charge sheet after the FIR. Hussain faced allegations under sections 504, 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code to insult criminal intimidation, violation of peace and humility of the woman. Police cited CCTV evidence showing the cat inside Hussain’s residence at a particular time. The defense lawyer argued that cats naturally enter and leave the houses through windows, which should not be considered a criminal function.
