Deadly bus accident in West Sumatra 12, dozens were injured after break

At least 12 people were killed when a bus carrying 34 passengers lost control of a downhill road and overturned in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province on Tuesday. According to police, at least 23 others were injured.The driver was among those in critical condition.According to the Director of West Sumatra Traffic Police, Reza Chairul Akbar Sedik, there was a bus route from Medan in North Sumatra province to Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, when its brake failed near a bus terminal in Padang city of West Sumatra.He said that the police was still investigating the cause of the accident. While providing details, the remaining people told the officials that the driver lost control of the vehicle in a mountainous area of Padang after the break.Local television footage showed the damaged bus on its side. The rescue workers of the National Search and Rescue Agency, police and nearby people were helping, while the ambulances took the injured victims and the deceased.Last year, a bus with 61 students and teachers is returning from a trip near Jakarta, crashed into cars and motorbikes after its break failed, killing 11 students and injured several others. In 2023, a tourist bus operated by a tired driver hit a billboard on a highway in East Java, killing 14 people and 19 injured.
