Mumbai: In a major development, which indicates that the deck has finally been approved to hold the Asia Cup in the UAE in September, TOI has learned that the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to participate in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday (July 24 (July 24 (ACC).BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, who is a representative of the Indian Board in ACC, will attend the meeting. It was previously revealed that the BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were involved in a stand-off at the ACC AGM site, in which the BCCI wanted it to be taken out of Dhaka. However, that stand-off is now over. “ACC has addressed some of our concerns, including the election of ACC Vice President, so now we have no problem in participating in the meeting. However, the situation with the Asia Cup will be clear only after this meeting, “a top BCCI official told TOI. On Wednesday, PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dhaka for AGM, where he was welcomed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman Amin ul Islam. Significantly, the ACC was to make its election on Wednesday, but now it has been postponed. A source said, “Eight-nine ACC members will participate in a physically ACC meeting in Dhaka, while the rest of the members will participate online.” It should be noted that NAQVI attended the ICC annual conference, which was held in Singapore, actually.Due to recent diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh, the BCCI initially stressed that the site of ACC AGM should be transferred from Dhaka as a condition for its participation. Its attitude was supported by colleagues like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Nepal. This brought the validity of the AGM under a question, as the quorum requires the presence of at least three permanent (test) members to fulfill the quorum. However, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are now expected to attend the online meeting.
