New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by the Chief of President Janata Dal (RJD) and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, allegedly demanding trial court proceedings in the ‘Bhumi-for-Jobs corruption case. Investigations were conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on the allegations that Yadav gave railway jobs in exchange for land parcels, which were transferred to his family or colleagues during their tenure from 2004 to 2009.Yadav contacted the High Court through senior advocate Kapil Sibal, which argued that the CBI investigation and subsequent allegations were invalid due to the absence of compulsory prior approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He claimed that this approval could proceed legally against a public servant before any investigation or investigation, while the approval was obtained for others involved, it was not provided in their case. The petition demanded the abolition of FIR and postpone charge framing, which was scheduled to begin on June 2.The CBI opposed the petition, maintaining that approval, the approval under Section 19 was duly protected and Section 17A was not applicable. It was also said that the issue of compulsory approval is currently pending before a large bench of the Supreme Court. The allegations are focused on manipulation of railway group-D appointments in exchange for land, with several charge sheet filed since 2022.
