Diana Penty may have made a successful Bollywood debut with the hit film Cocktail, but her journey on the silver screen began with almost a very different project. In an interview recently, the actor opened the lead role in front of Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s rockstar – a part that eventually went to Nargis Fakhri. Considering the missing occasion, Diana shared her early struggles with confidence, the workshops she participated in, and that experience unexpectedly paved the way for her big break.Recalling how her journey started in films, Diana shared with a hatterfly that her first brush came with Bollywood, while she was still modeling in New York. In an interview with Hauterrfly, he revealed that his agency informed him about filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is looking for a new face for Rockstar. Although acting was never a part of his plan and had no formal training, Diana returned to India for the meeting. He remembered how hot and compassionate Imtiaz he was, even though he lacked confidence at that time to see himself as an actor.The actress recalled that during her meeting with Imtiaz Ali, she was hot and encouraging, put her comfortably and allowed her to speak openly. When he explained the character and asked him to test, Diana admitted that she had no acting background and did not believe that she could do justice to the role. Despite his hesitation, Imtiaz encouraged him to participate in workshops, assuring him that he would decide on his casting after seeing him in the next 2-3 weeks.She even went to share that after 2-3 weeks of workshops, Imtiaz Ali slowly told her that even when she made noticeable progress, she felt that she was not quite ready to play a role in Rockstar, especially with the shoot just one month away. He felt that this could happen soon for him. Surprisingly, Diana was feeling some relief, as she herself was lacking at that time. She then returned to New York and resumed her modeling career.A year later, Diana received a call in which she reported that producer Dinesh Vijan was looking for a new face for an upcoming film. For her surprise, the script was written by Imtiaz Ali, who recalled her from the rockstar workshops and felt that she would be perfect for Meera’s role in Cocktail. Diana recalled the audition for the part and received a confirmation call within just 24 hours to the beginning of her acting trip with her start in the cocktail.The lead role in Rockstar eventually went to Nargis Fakhri. Meanwhile, Cocktail – A romantic comedy directed by Homi Adjania – captured Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles with Diana Penty. The film also starred Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles. Cocktail became a major box office hit, which earns Rs 121.78 crore worldwide.
