A slow but promising start in Hindi
Unlike its unprecedented run in Kerala and abroad, L2: Impuran has made a slow start in the Hindi market. In its first seven days, the film has collected just Rs 1.9 crore from the Hindi screening. Although this number may not look much larger than the mainstream Bollywood release, it is still an important achievement for a Malayalam film in the Hindi circuit.
One of the major challenges L2: Ampuran faces in Hindi are a limited number of shows. For example, in Mumbai, the film is about 35 shows averages per day for the upcoming weekends, restricting its reach among Hindi -speaking audiences.
Can it cross Marco’s benchmark?
Unni Mukundan’s Marco had weakened in Hindi in the first week, which used to collect only 28 lakh rupees. However, the action thriller gained momentum in his second week, saw an unprecedented growth at the box office, where he collected Rs 4.6 crore in the second week. By the end of his dramatic run, Marco raised a record for Rs 12.81 crore from his Hindi release – a record for a Malayalam film.
For L2: To defeat Marco, it requires an increase in the show’s count in a strong word-mouth and major Hindi-speaking markets. If the film sees expansion in screen and constant viewers’ interest, she has a chance to cross a benchmark of Rs 13 crore.
