Blanca Lopez, a Hispanic woman living in Irving, said she has been subjected to an insensitive joke by Barista of Starbucks Store. The incident took place on Monday when Lopez visited Starbucks inside a target story in Irving with two daughters. He ordered a Horcheta Latta, but there was a handwritten message on his cup lid.“What do you say a sick eagle?”“illegal”.was it fun. “And when I read it, I am liked, okay. Is I going to laugh or what I need to do,” Lopez told CBS News. Starbucks typically write the name of customers on the cup, but it was written on a joking cup lid and Lopez felt particularly targeted. “Why did they tell me this? Why are they asking if I have papers or no papers? Why did he write this?” Lopez said.“For me, like, it is aggressive.”Lopez said that he immediately showed a cup to a manager of the store, who apologized for joking. Lopez said he kept the cup as evidence with him and is still waiting for a formal response from Starbucks. “It is basically saying that we are ill, illegal persons who are not in this country,” he said.Starbucks told CBS News Texas that he was investigating the incident and is a zero-optional policy for any discriminatory behavior. “We want everyone to be treated with etiquette and respect in our store; we are apologized and actively investigating and addressing it.” Lopez said that she wants more than a vague apology. “I work as a manager. If someone in my team did something like this, I would fire him immediately,” he said.Dallas -based community leader Carlos Quintonila staged a protest at the store after the incident. The protest was scheduled on 28 June, but it was closed because no one showed.
