The professor of Ashok University was arrested on 18 May, when two FIRs were lodged two FIRs under the strict sections of the Indian Joint Code (BNS), including allegations of enduring India’s sovereignty and integrity for comments made on social media about Operation Sindoor. He was produced before a local court in Sonipat on the same day and was initially sent to police custody for two days. On Tuesday, the court sent him to judicial custody by 27 May.Professor says ‘misunderstanding comments’The case against Mahmudabad started with complaints from Haryana State Commission (HSCW) and a local village sarpanch, both alleged that their posts were inflammatory and derogatory. In his letter to the state DGP on 16 May, HSCW stated that its complaint was based on “Prima Facial Evidence and Example”.
