India’s veteran Seemar Mohammed Shami has been selected for the East Zone 15-Member Squad for the upcoming 2025-26 Dalip Trophy, with Ishaan Kishan appointed as Captain and Abhimanyu Ishvaran. The scheduled tournament from August 28 to September 15 will mark the beginning of the Indian domestic cricket season.Shami, 34, was last seen in action during the 2025 Indian Premier League, where he claimed six wickets in nine matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. His most recent first -class presence was for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy in November 2024.The East Zone Squad consists of notable players including All -rounder Ryan Parag along with Seamors Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar. Abhimanyu Isavaran, who is currently part of India’s Test Squad in England, will serve as the vice-captain of the team.The organizers of the tournament have also nominated six standby players, including Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently made headlines by scoring the fastest century in the youth sector during India’s Under -19 England tour. Left-arm spinner Manishi, who took 22 wickets in seven matches, and Jharkhand’s top run-scorer Virat Singh and Sharandeep Singh are also among the standbies.The format of the Dalip Trophy has changed in recent years. While South Zone won the tournament in its final zonal format version in 2023-24, last year saw the competition organized with four separate Indian squads – A, B, C, and D – was selected by BCCI.

The East Zone will face the North Zone in the initial match of the tournament, which is scheduled to be at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru on 28 August. The squad of the full eastern region includes Ishan Kishan, Abhimanyu Ishwar, Sandeep Patnaik, Virat Singh, Danish Das, Sridam Paul, Sharandeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Ryan Parag, Ukrash Singh, Manishi, Suraj Sindhu Jiiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep. Mukhtar Hussain, Asirvad Swain, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Swastik Samal, Sudeep Kumar Ghami and Rahul Singh are in Standbis.
