Dutch detectives say Russian hackers targeted the police

Hague: An already unknown Russian hacking group known as “laundry beer”, the Dutch police was behind attacks last year, intelligence services in the Netherlands on Tuesday said with data stolen related to sensitive work.According to an investigation by the Dutch Security and Intelligence Services AIVD and MIVD, the attack last September was part of a comprehensive campaign by Russian hackers against Western and NATO goals.“We have noticed that this hacker group successfully achieves access to sensitive information from a large number of (government) organizations and companies worldwide,” said Peter Risink, director of MIVD.He said, “He has special interest in the European Union and NATO countries.”Dutch officials said the laundry beer hackers have targeted IT and service providers in many countries along with armed forces, governments and defense contractors.He has also tried to hit the Dutch high-tech firms that create unavailable systems in Russia due to Western sanctions.Investigation revealed that the laundry bear “excessively was a Russian state -backed actor”, agencies said in their statement.The Dutch authorities have also decided to highlight the technical methods that have been used to infiltrate hackers, hopeful that it will allow for better defense.AIVD chief Eric Acarbom said, “This laundry bear’s success and possibilities of digital network can be better preserved.” “This enhances our national flexibility,” he said.
