New Delhi: In a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday, the President announced the names of four persons enrolled in the Rajya Sabha. The nominee is the famous Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, social activist C Sadanandan Master and historian Meenakshi Jain.“In the practice of powers provided by sub-section (A) of Article 80 of Article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with the section (3) of that article, the President is happy to nominate the following persons to fill the vacancies due to the retirement of the nominated members:- Mr. Ujwal Derao. Meenakshi Jain,” said the notification.Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated everyone in a series of posts in X, praising his contribution to the nation.Ujjwal Nikam is a public prosecutor known for handling major terror and criminal cases. The Prime Minister wrote, “He has been at the forefront of seeking justice in important matters” and always “to strengthen constitutional values”. ,A former foreign secretary and career diplomat Harsh Vardan Shringla also served as India’s ambassador to the US and Bangladesh. He played an important role for India’s G20 President in 2023.A historian and Padma Shri Awardee Meenakshi Jain has written extensively on Indian history, education and civilization. The PM called his nomination “immense joy” and said that his work has “enriched the educational discourse.”C -Sadanandan Master, a teacher and social worker from Kerala, lost both legs in a political attack in 1994.These nominations fill four out of 12 seats in the Rajya Sabha, reserved for those who have made significant contribution in areas such as literature, science, social service and public life.
