Encrypted message advice ‘Take’: How Pakistani Muhammad Shahjeb Khan was hiding in Canada

Pakistani national Muhammad Shahjeb Khan was extradited to the US to plan a collective shooting of Jews on the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on 7 October in New York City. Khan was hiding in Canada and claimed that if his plan was successful, it would have “the biggest attack on American soil since 9/11”. Canadian media reported that Khan was detected through an encrypted message that he had sent someone who thought to a colleague but an undercover was an American agent. The arrest of a father and son on an alleged terrorist plot in Ontario teased Khan and sent a message that “many Jewish people in New York needed to” reduce “on plans to kill many Jewish people as possible,”, Khan was arrested on the way to New York from Canada to fulfill his plans and has now been extradited in the US. The RCMP stated that it investigated Khan in partnership with the FBI and “as an increase in his actions, Khan did not have an immediate threat before his arrest.”FBI’s special agent Khaje Heter said that Khan used encrypted messaging apps to communicate with undercover agents, which presents as interested participants in the conspiracy, asking them to “buy automated and semi-automatic weapons.”

Attorney General of United States, Meric Garland said that Khan alleged that “the goal of slaughtering in the name of ISIS was as much as possible as Jewish people.” A complaint filed on the arrest of Khan said that since last November, Khan “repeatedly and clearly expressed his desire to fulfill terrorist attacks in support of ISIS and in support of ISIS”. The complaint stated that Khan will be the biggest attack on American soil since 9/11.,According to a complaint filed in Canada, Khan faced three allegations in Canada: trying to leave Canada to commit crimes for a terrorist group, participating in activities of a terrorist group and violating the US immigration law or illegally trying to try to enter America.

How Khan was arrested

On July 31, 2024, RCMP arrested two terrorists – father and son Ahmed Aldidi and Mustafa Aldidi. Khan became alert and warned his colleagues to stay away from social media. But associates, who were undercover agents, told Khan that he had weapons ready and should proceed with the plan. On September 4, 2024, Khan met in a vehicle in Toronto and left for Napni to pick up other people, who were to support him on the mission. In Napni, he switched to another car and moved to Montreal, where Khan and a “unknown woman” again replaced vehicles, with another person on the wheelWhen they were about 19 km from the US border, the vehicle was stopped and Khan was arrested.

Khan reached Toronto on a student visa on 24 June 2023. It was not known in which university he was nominated.
