Exclusive | ‘All good things are finished … incredibly going out on their terms’: Virat Kohli’s retirement on Kane Williamson. Cricket news

Timesofindia.com in manchester:Shubman Gill has led India in three tests – losing two and winning one. England vs Test Series Test is the first 25 -year -old assignment as the captain and has so far impressed. He is set on fire with the bat, leading the pack well in the middle and the off-field vibe, too, has also been rested. Many people fingered the BCCI’s move to give him Captain Armband, but his former Gujarat Titans team partner Kane Williamson was not surprised by the decision.Go beyond the border with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!He always felt that the captaincy sits well on the young man and believes that it is the beginning of big and better things for the future. Williamson is currently playing a vitality blast for Middlesex and was in appearance at 3 of the Lord’s Test, which India lost by 22 runs.
The former New Zealand captain feels that the way the series has been played, any side can win all of them. In a special chat with Timesofindia.com, Williamson opens on how Test batting has developed, India’s new Test Captain, under England under Brendon McCullum and Virat Kohli’s decision to retire.Part:You were in the last week of Lord’s during the third Test between India and England. Do you think the test batting has developed over the years and certainly it is not what it used to be? Especially with the World Testing Championship’s marks system? This is definitely … I mean it has developed. It has changed. Certainly the World Test Championship in the context of that bit, you know, value. Everyone now really pushes for a result and so you see that most games are now usually fixed within four days. However, the wickets are playing a lot in this series. This is quite good for the game. It has created a lot of results, very entertaining cricket and then you see teams like England. The best recipe for their success is to go out and be good and positive and play with that freedom and work in that fashion as soon as possible.I think every team still does it in a slightly different way, but on a whole it has changed slightly in a completely changing direction and I think it is important with challenges that face long format. And we talk about it so many times. However, a lot of Test cricket that we see on our TV type, it really attracts you and is really quite exciting to see.

I am sure you will not be surprised that the front man in such a revolution is former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.I mean not surprised. He always played with that freedom and then played under Brendon for a long time and how he promotes the players to go out and express himself and is committed to it and you have this full support, people behind them, so they are able to exclude that day and day. This is why we are looking for this England and it is very consistent how he works for a long time. It is quite thrilled to see Many Test matches and of course this series that we have seen between England and India have been very exciting. Two strong teams with a little different styles, but both are looking to pursue the game.
Was you surprised that India ended on the wrong side, especially the kind of cricket they played and how were they after taking them out cheaply in the second innings? Or do you think the pitch played its role to make the scoreline 2-1 in England’s favor? Was it a little more old school. It was not? The Test match at Lord’s where the players had to dig deep and really was to work hard for their runs and the bowlers got some help and they knew that they had to be patient with patience to receive the award. We saw that both teams work and adjust in that fashion and the last chase on one wicket that has deteriorated, is never easy. And only a handful of a handful of that has been successful in that ground above the score. There were going to be some challenges and said that India had been excellent throughout the series and both teams could really win them all. They both have their opportunities that I think it makes it very good to see and shows that two very strong teams are going on it, but I think at the beginning of that competition, the ability to see the new ball and build those early partnerships. It then goes a long way to close the score like 190.
India has been excellent throughout the series and both teams could actually win all of them. They both had their opportunities

I think we have to be honest that the conditions in Lord’s were quite different for the other two Test matches. The teams were watching above 300 chasing and there were elements of rest and some of them were so good and were held together for five days. So it was a very old school that was quite good to see and follow as well. I think we have not seen for so long. We have some challenges, but I think the Indian team is playing brilliant cricket, changing with a great opportunity every day against a strong English side and of course, you know that when the toss goes up, you do not really know who are favorite in every match.

You have seen Shubman Gill from close quarters in Gujarat Titans. What is your assessment of Shubman Gill captain, cricketer and how he has responded to the initial challenges of testing cricket as a leader and India’s new number 4. He has responded beautifully, is he not? I always thought that captaincy sits well with Shubman. I know it is a bit different to be in a franchise space, you know that it is a small type of project vs. Captain in your country, which you know it’s to consume too much. As long as you are in that role, you are not out of it. It is a very big role on the field and closed. Seeing Shubman and he is wise beyond his years and you know that the responsibility is naturally something that he has to take. So hearing that the opportunity was not surprising for me, but you know that the quality of the player is something that goes without saying. He is absolutely world class. And all other formats … For many years, IPL and one day cricket I feel that it is above the tree there. Test cricket is really a matter of time. It is surprising to see him to see that here and such circumstances that can be challenging with Duke from time to time, and as he dominates him.
It is going to be a really valuable lesson for him and we are looking at the leader that he will become but it is still the early day.
Ken Williamson on Shubman Gill
And then I feel that with him and his comfort in that role, it sets a long way for a leader of the Indian team. Cricketer Shubman and leadership qualities that he has … If he separates them, both departments have real quality and actually start to embed the things you are with the head coach. The formation of a really strong bond … It is really important and I think what we are looking at in these early stages. It is going to be a really valuable lesson for him and we are looking at the leader that he will become but it is still the early day.

When Roger Federer retired, Rafael Nadal became very emotional and said “a part of my life left with him”. I know different games, but did you realize that when Virat Kohli decided to say goodbye to the test?Strange that you have mentioned it. You do not consider the fact that you are right in the middle of it and then the players you have played for so many years. Your career has married a captain or playing for your country for a young age. Then in the Captain example that we did this … was the same time as natural progress. Everyone finishes. When some of those decisions are made, it stops you and consider you a lot of things, but also appreciation and respect. Somebody likes Virat .. So many great moments in the entire international sport but in fact the bond outside the pitch is something that you know is more special and the experiences that have been shared together. All good things are finished and the way he is able to make decisions that make him feel comfortable … I think it is incredibly going out on its terms, etc. however, however, is still included in a format.
What are your thoughts on Big Three discussions and how England, India and Australia play five Tests regularly, but we see the choice of South Africa and New Zealand and win the WTC title without playing a big series. What is your situation? At the end of the day, you only focus on things that you can control and you know to play a five Test match series for countries like New Zealand and others that share a similar situation despite a real passion to do so. And as you have mentioned, there are other teams where this is a more possible option. You are simply focusing on what you can do and the calendar you have and basically trying to exclude your best performance and develops as a side on two -year blocks that you have for the World Championship.Just focus on things that are in front of you and know that if you do so, it allows you to perform your best and eventually gives you a chance, but yes, clearly there are many strong teams and I think it is helpful for the game.
Playing T20 here in England, the experience is like going from one to the ground to another.Yes, I really enjoyed playing in the vitality blast and you know as a family, it is good to be in the UK. We have some relations here. So it has been pleasant and you meet it to play, you know, such different base and standard are good, so yes, it is fun and good to play in a new community as well as a new team. Which is always pleasant when you get an opportunity to play cricket around the world. For an international professional like you, how is it to interact with different individuals, parts of different cultures, while playing for different teams in different leagues around the world?I really enjoy that aspect. A little flexibility and the opportunities to be made aware of different cultures in different parts of the world and playing good cricket and in the game I like. This is definitely an attractive part … at this stage of my career and with me with family and they get to see something.
