New Delhi: For the first time in the history of the Supreme Court, an assured CJI did not participate in judicial work for a week to attend a conference abroad and will resume work on Monday.
Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna Last week left for China to attend the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice Conference Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) Countries being held in Hangzo. Several CJIS told Toi that they would attend the SCO conference when the court was on leave. If such conferences clashed with the work of SC, a senior judge was assigned to participate in it, he said. Even when India hosted the SCO CJS conference in 2023, the then CJI did not remember the judicial work in the court even for a day.
The SC had a five -day holiday from 10 to 14 April, during which CJI had held holidays in Port Blair. He held the court from 15 to 17 April. The court was closed on 18 April due to Good Friday and then followed the weekend. When the court reopened on 21 April, the CJI left for China for the SCO conference. He will resume work on Monday and be a busy magic before May 13 when he will be retired.
Before retirement, they have two important tasks. The first is that a prayer was decided to stay for some provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act sought by more than 150 Muslim petitioners, but was opposed by the Center.
