Fastag can be used soon to buy insurance, payment challan

New Delhi: You can soon use your vehicle’s Fastag for traffic challans, parking fee, insurance premium and highway toll for EV charging. With about 11 million Fastags issued by banks, Govt is searching for ways to expand its use as a flexible payment tool.To carry forward the next phase of Fastag development, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI held a brainstorming workshop with top officials of the Ministry of Finance and Fintech firms on Wednesday. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said through cooperation with Fintech and other stakeholders, the government aims to extend the utility of Fastag into a strong platform that will “increase the user’s convenience, streamlined transport and dynamics services”.Sources said that Road Transport Secretary V Umashankar said that Fastag has introduced a large -scale manless toll and eliminated obstacles, it can be used for other purposes related to vehicles, such as paying for fuel, insurance premium and traffic challans, as the government has applied the ‘a vehicle, a tag’ rule.On the possibility of issuing fastag to increase the coverage of insurance vehicles in three years in three years, the secretary said that it is possible, but the ‘vigor’ database needs to be cleaned, with about 7.5 million inactive vehicles.
