Five fishermen who spent 55 days in the sea, after rescue, arrived in the Galapagos Islands

Quito: Five fishermen who spent 55 days in the sea, reached a port of the Galapagos Islands after being rescued by a tuna boat on Saturday, Ecuadorian Navy said on X. Three Peru and two were missing since the Colombian March and were found on 7 May by an Ecuadorian boat called Aldo. The Navy said in a separate post on Friday that the fishermen had reported damage to the boat alternator two days after the Peru’s capital Lima was installed from the Pususana Bay. Failure inspired the communication and navigation tools to malfunction, Ecuadorian Navy Friendate Captain Maria Fares told the Associated Press, saying that he had no power on the boat. “She had some starter, lights and everything that produces a battery,” she said. To survive, they “had to take the rusty water out of the engine (and) when a fish passed by, they grabbed it and crossed it to eat.” The rent said that he also drank rain and sea water to survive. The men are in a stable position and the Navy said it is coordinating with local and foreign authorities to ensure safe return to their respective countries. Earlier this year, another Peru fisherman, 61 -year -old Maximo Napa, spent 95 days alone in the sea. He was also rescued by an Ecuadorian vessel and returned to Lima to reunite with his family in mid -March.
