New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that the Center has approved Rs 1,066.80 crore as relief for the states affected by floods and landslides this year. He confirmed that the funding would be distributed under the central part of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and covered six states: Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala and Uttarakhand. In a post on X, Shah wrote, “The Modi government is fully standing next to the states in all situations. Today the Central Government has Rs 1066.80 crore for floods. He said that more than Rs 8,000 crore has been released from SDRF/NDRF fund to 19 states this year, and said “providing all logistic assistance, including the deployment of the expected NDRF, army and air force, has been our priority.”This announcement comes when many states struggle after rapid monsoon rains and landslides. The Indian Army has extended humanitarian aid and disaster relief operation under the *Operation Water Relief -2 *, especially in the North Eastern states. Overall, 40 relief columns have been deployed, so far saving 3,820 people, supplying more than 15,000 water bottles and 1,361 food packets, and offered medical care to more than 2,000 people. In Himachal Pradesh, the army has collected its columns in the flood-Hit Mandi district. A brigade commander is currently posted there to oversee the operation, already reaching the cut-off villages like Degi, Rushad and Chapad with relief supply. Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of more than Rs 740 crore from June 20 due to excessive rains, claiming life with many cloudbukes and landslides and destroying the property.Despite some areas of watching water levels, the army is cautious in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, where rivers such as Dhansiri and Nambol broke the danger level early this week.
