New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday thanked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for his invitation to attend the G7 summit. A post on X PM Modi said, “Canadian Prime Minister @Markjcarney is happy to receive a call. He congratulated him for his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation of the G7 Summit in Kananskis later this month.,PM Modi said, “India and Canada will work with fresh strength, directed by mutual respect and shared interests, as a lively democracy bound by deep people’s relations with people.
India’s relations with Canada had frost on several issues, including activities of Khalistani separatists in the North-American country under the government of Carney’s predecessor Justin Trudeau.G7 is an informal group of the world’s most industrialized countries – France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Japan, United States and Canada. The European Union (EU) also participates, and organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and United Nations are also invited.The Canada is hosting the summit from 15 to 17 June, where leaders are expected to discuss major global challenges including Russia-Ukraine conflict and status in West Asia.
