Konoli died at 75.After a fight with osophageal cancer, surrounded by family, he died peacefully on Wednesday at home.According to a statement issued by his loved ones, Konoli died at his house. The family did not reveal the cause of death, although Konoli shared in 2024 that he was undergoing treatment for esophagus cancer.Last month, he confirmed that the cancer had returned and announced that he would not seek election again in 2026.The statement said, “It is with immense sadness that we shared that our dedicated and loving father, husband, brother, friend, and public servant, Congress Garald E. Konoli, died peacefully at our home surrounded by family this morning.”Konoli had served as a Congressman for the 11th district of Virginia since 2009, representing parts of Northern Virginia. Prior to his time at Congress, he spent 14 years in Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.In Democratic politics, a long -time legalist and prominent person, Konoli, had recently chosen to step down from his role in the House Oversite and Government Reform Committee.
