A British-Pilstinian journalist alleged a long-standing relationship with Hamas, allegedly played a leading role in launching a support ship carrying climate activist Gita Thunberg and others, before it was intercepted by the Israeli forces.According to a report by The Telegraph, Jahar Birvi was involved in The Madelleen’s high-profile launch, aimed at challenging the naval blockade of Israeli’s Gaza. The ship flagged off on 1 June under the banner of Freedom Floral alliance, with 12 international activists, including Thunberg. The Birvi is the head of the International Committee who is the founding member of the breaking of siege on Gaza and the Freedom Flotila alliance. He was present on Madeline’s departure and praised them for his courage in an attempt to assist Palestinian citizens. The mission included supplies like staple food items such as baby formula and rice. The Israeli army detained the ship, which Birvi described as “a stolen operation in international water and 150 nautical miles from Palestinian water”. “The Freedom Flag Alliance demands international intervention to ensure its safety and release,” he said.Although Birvi has denied any participation in terrorist activities, it has been the subject of long -standing allegations. In 2013, Israel gave him a label of Hamas Operative located in Europe. His non-profit, European Forum, which supports Palestinian rights, was named a terrorist organization in 2021 by Israeli officials. The 2012 photo of Birvi, who attended an event with former Hamas political head Ismail Honeyh, is often quoted as evidence of his alleged link. However, Birvi has constantly maintained his innocence. He said, “My legal team mainly trusted the fact that there has never been any legal punishment against me by any official authority in any state in any state anywhere in the world, and that I have never been found involved in any illegal acts, which can be understood under the purview of terrorism crimes,” he said that after listing a terrorism from Natwest.Recently, Labor MP Christian Wakeford used parliamentary privilege to labeled Birvi to “a serious national security risk” and accused of “British citizenship” through the use of “fake documents” after the Hamas -led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023. Birvi dismissed the allegations as “uneven”.Neither the United Kingdom nor the United States, which both listed both Hamas as a terrorist organization, have taken legal action against Birvi. The European Forum has also rejected the claims of terrorist connections, arguing that it is being incorrectly targeted for its advocacy work.Birvi Gaza remains an outspoken critic of Israeli policies and has led several demonstrations in London. He also condemned the Israeli defense forces to seize Madelleen and continued to call for international pressure to eliminate the blockade on the Gaza Strip, which has been in place since Hamas was under control in 2007.
