New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the anniversary of his 34th death.In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Today on the anniversary of his death, I pay my tribute to my former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhiji.”Congress leaders also paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial Veer Bhoomi. Among them were his son Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge and party leader Sachin Pilot.Rajiv Gandhi served as the Prime Minister of the country from 1984 to 1989, who was a leader with an absolute majority with the final Congress government. He took over the party after the assassination of his mother, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, who became the youngest Prime Minister in the country at the age of 40.On May 21, 1991, he was assassinated by a Sri Lankan terrorist group, LTTE, while campaigning in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.His son Rahul Gandhi now serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
