‘Great threat to democracy’: Mahua Motra transferred SC to the EC voter list amendment in Bihar; Crazy exercise to ‘crazy exercise’. Bharat News

New Delhi: Trinumool Congress MP Mahua Motra has stepped up against the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct a special intensive amendment (SIR) in Bihar, which is a direct threat to democratic rights to the process. In a scary criticism, Motra accused of acting at the behest of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and attempting to separate millions of people, especially migrant and poor voters.Moitra said, “The All India Trinamool Congress under the leadership of Mamta Banerjee has pointed out a lot of danger for democracy, which has been started by the Election Commission in Bihar and plans to start in Bengal in other states as well.” “I filed a Supreme Court petition last night and it is violated.”Moitra argued that this process violates several constitutional provisions – Articles 14, 19 and 21 – as well as articles 3, 325 and 326. “This special intensive modification is violated … It is also against the representation of the Act 1960 and the registration of the rules of the voters,” he said.According to him, Sir introduces 11 new documents as evidence of eligibility – any of which include Aadhaar or ration cards such as commonly used IDs. “Now apart from your birth certificate, no other documents like matriculation certificate or PSU card give you birth place,” he said. Motra warned that in some cases the need to establish the birthplace of the parents, both parents will reject “two and a half to three crore people in Bihar” and may be implemented in Bengal soon.“It is completely against the rights of poor migrant workers, who will not have any opportunity in the short deadline to actually download the form and upload them again. I mean, this whole thing is a crazy practice and its only goal is to separate voters, ”he said. Motra said that the ECI was deviated from its mandate: “Instead of doing so, the Election Commissioner of India has taken it to the BJP to become a hand … It is a great shame.”PTI reported that Moitra’s petition filed under Article 32 also tries to stop ECI from issuing equal instructions in other states. A similar argument has been filed by the Association of Democratic Reforms, warning that the practice “arbitrarily and without a process” can remove millions of names from the roll.Defending the amendment, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanash Kumar said that almost every political party in Bihar had expressed concern about the inaccuracy in the list of voters, which inspires the EC to work. He insisted that people who were listed in the role of 2003 do not need to submit documents related to any birth. But for those born after 1987, documents that prove the birthplace of the parents are required, and for those born after 2004, evidence is necessary for both parents. The EC stressed that the purpose of exercise is to exclude disqualified and non -resident voters including illegal migrants. The amendment that started on 24 June is going to run till July 25, and one lakh booth-level officials across Bihar.
