GST collection did a record high hit! According to the official government data released on Thursday, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue broke the record for breaking the record for Rs 2.37 lakh crore in April.The last second highest collection of Rs 2.10 lakh crore recorded in April 2024 since the implementation of the indirect tax system on July 1, 2017, was crossed. The collection in March 2025 was Rs 1.96 lakh crore.
GST earnings increased by 10.7 percent due to domestic transactions, with revenue from imported goods to about Rs 1.9 lakh crore, witnessing an increase of 20.8 percent, reaching Rs 46,913 crore.
The government released a refund of Rs 27,341 crore in April, with an increase of 48.3 percent.
After accounting for refunds, the NET GST collection demonstrated a total increase of more than Rs 2.09 lakh crore in April.
GST revenue saw an increase of 9.1%, which reached Rs 183,646 crore in February, which was mainly inspired by sufficient increase in domestic revenue collection. The January collection had Rs 1.96 lakh crore, with a significant year-on improvement of 12.3%.
The collection in December was a total of Rs 1.77 lakh crore, indicating an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous year. This growth rate was lower than an increase of 8.5% in November, with a decrease in the cost of festive season after the decline.
The government’s budget forecasts estimated an increase of 11% in GST revenue, including an estimated collection of Rs 11.78 lakh crore, including both central GST and compensation cess components.
