‘Hell-Bent on Military Outer Space’: North Korea slams Trump’s Golden Dome Plan

North Korea on Tuesday slammed US President Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile shield project, calling it a “very dangerous” step that endangers global security and intensifies the weapon of space. In a memorandum issued by its Ministry of External Affairs, North Korea stated that the initiative was a direct challenge for the strategic balance created by nuclear powers, the state -run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). It warned that the US was “hell on militaryization” and accused Washington of sparking an atomic and space weapons race. Criticism follows Trump’s announcement last week, where he revealed early money and gave more information about the Golden Dome system. He described it as important for the United States “success and even survival”. However, experts have marked serious technical and political obstacles. He also said that the development and deployment of the system would come at a lot of cost.
The scheme has been designed after Israel’s Iron Dome, a system that has been credited with intercepting thousands of short-range projectional since 2011. But the US faces a wide range of missile threats that vary greatly in the type and range, doubting the effectiveness of a similar system on American earth. China and Russia have echoed North Korea’s concerns. Beijing warned that the plan could disrupt global stability, while Moscow initially condemned it to destabilize it. Later, Kremlin stated that the decision was an American “sovereign case”, although it noted the need for consultation. The US has increased military cooperation with South Korea, deploying strategic assets such as aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. Meanwhile, North Korea claims its position as a nuclear-satell state and regularly criticized the United American-South Korea military exercise as stimulating.
