‘Homecoming’: 2 senior DPAP leaders led by senior Ghulam Nabi Azad return to Congress; Vow to strengthen the party Bharat News

Two senior leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saruri have returned to the Congress party after summarizing the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) of Ghulam Nabi Azad.The former ministers were welcomed back to the Congress office in Srinagar on Friday, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Naseer Hussain, who is in charge of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and the party’s union area head, Tariqar Hamid Karr.Mohiuddin, who once represented the URI constituency in Baramulla district of North Kashmir, left the Congress in August 2022 to join the newly formed DPAP. He later left Azad’s party in August 2024 and failed in the assembly elections as an independent.Saruri, who left the Congress to follow Azad in 2022, participated with the DPAP after being denied tickets from his traditional seat, Indrawal for the competition. He also lost the election.Welcoming him, Naseer Hussain said that this is a happy moment for the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. “He is a senior leader who has been an MLA and minister,” he said, quoting PTI.Speaking on his return, Mohiuddin said, “I have been in a party for 40 years. I don’t think I ever left, I think I was on leave. I am grateful to the party’s leadership that he forgives my mistake.”He said that he was standing with the Congress even during difficult times. “The party’s support was always behind me whether I was an MLA or minister. I am his criminal and I think they will forgive.”Calling his return as “homecoming”, Saruri said, “I am grateful to the leadership of the party. Humans make mistakes and I apologize for myself.”He promised to strengthen the Congress in the coming days.
