How is UAE Artificial Intelligence using World News to create the world’s largest Arabic language resources

The United Arab Emirates is creating an ambitious national strategy to protect and modernize the Arabic language using artificial intelligence. From comprehensive digital dictionaries to AI-operated readability tools and homegron language models, the efforts of the UAE’s cross-sector aims to increase the global digital appearance of Arabic, protecting their cultural and linguistic heritage.
Build a digital future for Arabic: National level projects
The UAE has initiated several initiatives in publication, education and technology sectors for digitizing and modernization of Arabic language. These efforts are supported by major institutions, in which government support supports with integration of AI in platforms and equipment.
- Historical Dictionary of Arabic Language:
Has been developed byArabic language academy In Sharjah, this project is a document of Arabic development through history. It consists of 127 sections and contains over 20 million words. The dictionary is now available in a GPT-competent interface, allowing users to explore their spacious databases intravenously. Users can read, write and even convert materials into videos, regular updates and cooperative features are capable through partnership with the Emirates Research Center. - Digital Knowledge Hub:
Moved by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktaum Knowledge Foundation, this initiative is a centralized platformDigital arabic content The hub has obtained 800,000+ titles and 8.5 million digital assets from 18+ libraries. Its purpose is to strengthen Arabic knowledge in a structured digital format and expand global access to Arabic content. - AI-Interested Dictionary by Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center:
A historical tool in digital publication, it is the first Arabic-English AI dictionary of its kind. it features- 7,000+ contemporary Arabic words
- AI-based automated pronunciation
- Simplified, accessible definitions
- Computational linguistics tools for accurate and purpose
These projects are setting up a foundation for future Arabic language learning, material manufacturing and globally for digital access.
AI meets education and readability: Corpus and Learning Tools
Integration of AI in Arabic language education and research is another central pillar of UAE strategy.
- BAREC (balanced Arabic readability Corpus):
Launched by Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center in partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi and Zaid University in 2023, the project aims to collect 10 million-word linguistic corpus. This includes diverse styles and content of countries, which focus on text readability levels.
Barec’s major objectives include:
- Anota
- AII tools capable of automatically assessing and classifying text readability
- Arabic to improve the understanding of learning and reading
- Data Open-SOST for Research Community to increase Arabic linguistic equipment
The readability, as a concept, plays an important role in language acquisition, educational performance and analogistics distribution – especially important in educational settings.
Falcon Arabic : UAE’s Homegron AI Language Model
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) under the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) is leading the AI model development with a sharp focus on Arabic.
- Falcon Arabic:
Unlike many large language models relying on translated dataset, Falcon Arabic is designed on indigenous Arabic-language data, including modern standard Arabic and regional dialects. Its unique value lies more effectively catching linguistic nuances, cultural references and regional variations.Falcon Arabic’s main attraction:
- Competition with models up to 10X its size
- Customized for performance with low computational load
- Fully developed within UAE, strengthen data sovereignty and localization
- Falcon H1:
A more compact version that reportedly improves comparable models of meta and Alibaba maintains high performance with low technical requirements. Despite a strong beginning, the Falcon model has faced a user adopted and ranked challenges compared to global competitors such as meta and deepsek (China). The broad mission of TII includes AI, quantum computing, robotics and more. Since its establishment in May 2020, it has deployed Abu Dhabi as a regional R&D Hub in the next-gene technology.
Technology in publication and international cooperation
The UAE’s publication industry is being re -associated with AI at its core.
- Digital square at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair:
This new initiative shows how Technology is especially re -shaping AI -publication. The space acts as an innovation field, exposing the digital change of literature, educational texts and learning materials. - AI in classes:
Educational institutions across the UAE are integrating AI devices in Arabic language instructions. The goal is for future proof learning environment by combining traditional language conservation with modern digital qualifications. - International Partnership:
A major milestone was an AI agreement signed during the visit of US President Donald Trump, which provided Emirati access to the advanced American AI semiconductor. The deal has strategic implications that empower the UAE’s domestic AI development.
