New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday talked about how Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal, if reached, would prove beneficial for India, expressing hope that the additional 25% tariff imposed by the US would be canceled. “If after a meeting with Putin, there is a meeting with Ukraine, the other 25% tariffs on the US will be removed due to purchasing Russian oil, as it was in terms of war (between Russia and Ukraine),” Annie said.Additional tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump were in response to the continuous purchase of new Delhi’s Russian oil, claiming that Moscow was promoting the aggression against Ukraine. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation and the two leaders “confirmed the commitment to deepen the special and privileged strategic partnership to India-Russia.”“There was a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest events on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and confirmed our commitment to deepen the Indo-Russia special and privileged strategic partnership.Meanwhile, Russia has also expressed solidarity with India amidst the pressure from Trump with 50% tariff on its constant oil purchases. India has defended its Russian oil purchase, which has been called a step required by “global market conditions”.
