New Delhi: India and France signed a mega of Rs 63,000 crore to buy 26 on Monday Rafale Marine Aircraft For the Indian Navy. During the agreement, the Indian side was represented by Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, where Swaminathan of Navy Vice President Vice Admiral was present.
The deal was approved by the PM Modi-led cabinet committee earlier this month, amidst increased tension between India and Pakistan. Jets will mainly operate indigenous aircraft carriers INS Vikrant’s deck.
The government-government contract for 22 single-sites Rafael-M jets and four twin-seat trainers includes some weapons, simulators, crew training and five-year performance-based logistics support.
26 Rafale-Am fighters, designed for marine strikes, air defense and reconnaissance missions, will be distributed in 37 to 65 months after stopping the contract, including paying the initial 15% installment of the total cost of the deal to India.
An official told TOI, “The new IGA reflects an ink in the IAF deal. All 26 jets are to be distributed by 2031.”
